I was arrested for arson and theft on the strength of totally false evidence. Do I have any recourse ?

I was bailed to reappear at Police station, not charged, no conditions to bail. After 4 weeks told no further action, can this person make such a serious and false allegation and get away with it? Caused huge distress to myself and family.I was arrested for arson and theft on the strength of totally false evidence. Do I have any recourse ?
The only recourse is under the heading of ';malicious prosecution'; which can lie against the Police if they've been sneaky and underhand. Or indeed if they arrested you without any justification.

In terms of the person reporting you, they could be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice if you reported them. Carries life imprisonment as a maximum. Worth looking into if you fancy some revenge. Of course, revenge never stops and you'll probably later wish you had just chalked it up to experience and got on with your life.

We are all glad you were proved innocent by the NFA by Police. Don't go too far in getting your own back, all you'll do is make the experience last longer.I was arrested for arson and theft on the strength of totally false evidence. Do I have any recourse ?
If the police had reasonable cause to believe the allegations then you have no recourse. The law of false arrest only applies if the arrest was unlawful, and the rule of ';probable cause'; applies.

You may have a case against the person who made the false allegation, but again the rule of probable cause applies - did they do it maliciously or did they genuinely believe you were acting illegally?
It is up to the Police to take action regarding wasting Police time.

You could probably take a civil action for deformation of character for financial compensation - if they have no assets there is no point. You would need legal advice and have costs to pay before it went to court
Sure you can, and once the evidence is proven to be erroneous you will be exonerated

Be thankful you were not convicted or charged based on false evidence
If someone lied to the police about you being a suspect, the police should be able to charge him/her with making a false police report.
You have no recourse the police are obliged to investigate all evidence given to them, if only to rule it out; as happened in this case.
Bring up a lawsuit on the department.
Clearly they can and they did. Do you have evidence to provide that you weren't there then ......
You should light him on fire.
